NEC Performed Successful Results At WiMAX Plugfest

Tokyo and London, May 23, 2007 — NEC Corporation announced today they performed successful testing at the third Mobile WiMAX Plugfest held last week in Sophia Antipolis, France. NEC was one of 32 WiMAX equipment and test equipment manufacturers to perform interoperability of Mobile WiMAX equipment. The actual testing was conducted between May 13 and 19.

NEC has joined with its mobile WiMAX flexible basestation platform and mobile WiMAX card. Both these platforms allow users to connect seamlessly across wide area wireless networks delivering full mobility and a high quality of service.

The work NEC has undertaken at the Plugfest builds on the experience of recent wins in Taiwan and commitment to the technology’s development. The signing of agreements with the service provider Tatung and the Taiwanese government announced recently cement NEC’s leadership in the field of mobile networking. The establishment of the WiMAX R&D centre in Taiwan will allow interoperability testing to continue apace and to drive the global adoption of Mobile WiMAX as the next generation wireless networking technology.

NEC Europe Ltd., a NEC Corp’s wholly owned subsidiary, will represent at 5th Annual Mobile Broadband Congress at Olympia, London on May 23 – 24. Stephen Lightley will present on “The Transition from Fixed to Mobile WiMAX Today” on May 23, 15:00-15:20. NEC’s booth will be located at stand 1405.
