Widevine Locks Up All Canadian IPTV Deployments Enabling Premium Broadcast Delivery to Set-Top Boxes, PCs and Mobile Devices

Widevine Technologies, the world’s leading provider of downloadable content protection, forensic watermarking and digital copy protection solutions, today announced that Bell Aliant (TSX: BA.UN), the leading IPTV provider in Atlantic Canada, has chosen Widevine to protect its broadcast service, Aliant TV.

Bell Aliant evaluated the entire market for content security and determined that Widevine’s comprehensive content security and proven deployments with other Canadian service providers — SaskTel, Telus and MTS Allstream — were key factors in meeting their business goals now and as their service expands. Widevine also was able to meet Aliant’s aggressive time-to-market goals. Bell Aliant’s conversations with the broadcasters yielded a high regard for Widevine’s patented content security capabilities and fast renewability of client security on a wide range of consumer platforms.

Aliant TV offers 300 channels of digital IPTV programming including broadcast TV, Pay-Per-View movies and events, over 90 regional radio stations and 40 commercial-free all-music channels. Its Interactive Program Guide lets users conveniently watch TV, channel surf and select programs.
