Delhi: July 24, 2007 – “What should we do to free our planet fromterrorism?” asked Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the icon of India’s youth. And the world answered!

Dr. Kalam’s concern about the state of affairs of today’s world, where combating terrorism assumes prime importance in every country, propelled him to put forth his question on an open forum – the #1 knowledge sharing portal on the internet -Yahoo! Answers with a user base of millions from varied backgrounds.

Picking out the winning response Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam commented: “Of the shortlist put together by the (Yahoo! India) editorial team, I have selected 2 answers by Sugato Mitra and Karthik Durairajan as 1 and 2, in that order. In my opinion, to a certain extent, possible solutions emerge from a combination of these two answers.”

He added, “I have selected these answers from the participants based on their depth of thinking and action oriented suggestions.”

Dr Kalam’s question received an overwhelming 15,000 responses from high school children across India. He has selected the 10 best answers and the winners will get a special educational tour of Silicon Valley.
