Panasonic Adds 8GB Model to Its Pro High Speed SD Card Lineup
Panasonic, a leader in digital electronics, today announced plans to launch an 8GB Pro High Speed SD Memory Card featuring both high capacity and high speed. The 8GB SD Memory Card, model RP-SDV08GU1K, will be globally released in September, 2007 with a suggested retail price of $159.99. Having added this model, Panasonic now offers four Pro High Speed models, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB card sizes with the Class 6 Speed specification. The company is also planning to introduce a 16GB model later this year to further strengthen the lineup.
There is a growing demand for recording High Definition video and high resolution images with the expansion of HD camcorders and high-resolution digital still cameras, and card-based recording media is expected to have larger capacity and higher data transfer speeds. The new model meets such demand with its SDHC* specification, which is compatible with the SD Memory Card Ver.2.0 standard as well as Class 6 Speed specification which guarantees minimum data transfer speed of 6MB/s.
With its 8GB massive data storage capacity, the RP-SDV08GU1K is able to record a High Definition movie of approximately 2 hours in AVCHD normal mode, and to store about 3080 high resolution still images.**
The data transfer speed of up to 20MBs, fast enough for professional and broadcast-use digital devices, provides superb performance and high quality recording. Even when using the card with a professional digital SLR camera, consumers can enjoy full performance of consecutive shooting without worrying about overflow of buffer memory. When used with Panasonic’s new High Definition SD video camera, HDC-SD5, the card can stably record detailed High Definition video in real-time.
Panasonic remains committed to playing a leading role in the development of both SDHC compatible devices and SD Memory Cards. The company is planning to expand the usage and application of SDHC Memory Cards by increasing memory capacity and improving data transfer speeds.
