ICR Offers Cash Prize To Identify Clinical Research Stars Of The Future
The Institute of Clinical Research (ICR) is offering a cash prize and the opportunity for young researchers to showcase their work to a global audience via a poster at the 2008 Annual Spring Conference.
The posters will be evaluated by a panel of experts from within the ICR’s membership and the best will join last year’s winner, Oliver Pearson, whose work on intra-operative fibrinogen testing identified him as one of the industry’s brightest young talents.
Commenting on last year’s entrants, ICR chair Susan Ollier said; “I was delighted by the huge interest and diversity of entries last year and the incredibly high standard of the entries.
“The wide variety of entries we received did make judging incredibly difficult but in the end, the fact that Oliver Pearson’s work was already changing patient care, coupled with the excellent standard of presentation, tipped the scales in his favour.”
As the largest professional clinical research body in Europe, the ICR is committed to raising standards and sharing knowledge in clinical research and sees the nurturing of grass-roots scientists as vital to the industry, as Susan Ollier explains:
“The conference poster session provides an opportunity for researchers attending the conference to present their work in progress, enabling them to discuss their evolving project with others in the field, gain feedback and expand publicity for their work. The poster can be on a variety of topics but should fit into the category of either process or science.
“Presenting a poster is, therefore, a simple way of having a presence at the conference and could also offer MScs and early-stage MPhil/PhD students an opportunity to present dissertation work or the background to their research area. We encourage submissions from anyone who wishes to try out their skills in this presentation format and share their work with conference delegates.”
Along with the free showcasing opportunity and a cash prize, the winner will also be invited to contribute an article to the ICR’s flagship publication, CRfocus.
In order to assess the suitability of posters, potential participants are invited to submit an abstract for consideration.
