Online IT recruitment specialist launches www.itjobsforgraduates.com to provide jobs and advice for graduates wanting an IT career

Online recruitment specialist, The IT Job Board, has launched a new job board focused exclusively on the specific needs of the graduate market. www.itjobsforgraduates.com plans to make it easier for newly-qualified graduates to find their first IT position and highlights the benefits of a career in the technology sector. The new site is the latest addition to The IT Job Board network which includes www.theitjobboard.com, www.thesapjobboard.com and www.itjobsinthecity.com.

www.itjobsforgraduates.com is the only job board on the market to cater solely for graduates wanting to work in technology. Its selection of more than 1200 IT-only positions across a range of industry sectors offered by a variety of key graduate recruiters including Bloomberg, ensures that newly-qualified job seekers do not have to search through extensive lists of irrelevant posts in order to find those which are suitable.

Ray Duggins, managing director of The IT Job Board, comments: “No matter how well qualified a graduate, their first foray into employment can be extremely daunting. When it comes to an IT career, this is fuelled by the vast array of – mostly irrelevant – positions that are presented as a result of searching general job sites. Paradoxically, this information overload is combined with a lack of practical advice on how graduates can give themselves the best possible chance of success in the technology arena, as well as check that they are focusing on positions that are right for them. We wanted to redress the balance, guiding graduates through the maze to ensure their needs are met - after all, these people are the future of the IT industry.”

The site provides job seekers with information to enable them to make informed decisions about taking their first steps on the career ladder. Material includes guides offering advice on how to be attractive to potential employers, as well as recruiter profiles to help them select organisations that are the right ‘fit’ for their individual needs.

In recognition that the IT sector is suffering from a skills shortage and that IT companies are failing to attract as many graduates as other sectors*, www.itjobsforgraduates.com has also tasked itself with encouraging graduates to consider the benefits of a career in technology.

Duggins concludes: “There can be no denying that the serious shortage of skills in the IT arena continues to be a major threat. However, we believe that the industry as a whole must take responsibility for encouraging people to regard a career in technology as a viable option. www.itjobsforgraduates.com is the ideal vehicle with which to foster this and we are therefore committed to illustrating the rewards on offer in this flexible, dynamic and business-critical sector.”

* The Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) Graduate Recruitment Survey 2007 revealed that IT companies receive 22 applicants for every graduate vacancy, compared to the national average of 29. This figure rises to 104 in the consumer goods industry.
