Iomega Announces New Portable Hard Drives With Industry-Leading Capacity, Performance, and Backup Software

Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), a global leader in data protection and security, today announced two new portable hard drives for PC and Mac users with industry-leading capacity, performance and backup capabilities: the Iomega® Portable Hard Drive 250GB* Hi-Speed USB 2.0, and the Iomega Portable Hard Drive 200GB Hi-Speed USB 2.0.

With the maximum capacity and performance available today in the small form factor category, Iomega’s two newest portable hard drives are perfect for students, travelers, and mobile professionals who need to secure, protect and transport their digital files.

Designed For Rugged Simplicity: Both of Iomega’s new portable hard drives are USB-powered, so installation is easy: just connect the drive to a host PC with the included USB cable.

Both drives are about the size of a PDA, and comfortably thin at just 0.5 inches (12.7 mm). Each drive weighs less than six ounces and fits easily into a shirt pocket or laptop bag. The metallic silver drive enclosure is rugged and attractive, and together with Iomega Drop Shock technology, helps protect data from the inevitable bumps and dings of portable use.

A New Performance Benchmark: Both drives in today’s announcement use 5400 RPM hard drives with 8 MB cache.

“Iomega’s newest portable hard drives are excellent choices for anyone who needs portable storage, and the 250GB Iomega Portable Hard Drive sets a new benchmark for portable hard drive storage capacity,” said Ashley Ettwein, HDD product manager, Iomega Corporation. “Not only do these two new portable hard drives provide more raw storage capacity than many people have in their desktop PCs, they also use the latest technology to help ensure that the data on the drives stay safe.”
