Symantec Announces Extended Agreement With MSN

Symantec Corp., the global leader in information security, today announced the extension of its licensing agreement with MSN for Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam. Since November 2002, Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam has been utilized by MSN Hotmail to help detect and stop billions of spam messages before they entered MSN Hotmail customers’ in-boxes.

“Our customers’ protection and safety remains a top priority for MSN and we continue to invest in a range of technologies and solutions to help protect them from issues including spam,” said Kevin Doerr, MSN Hotmail product unit manager at Microsoft Corp. “Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam is an important part of our overall spam fighting solution and we’re pleased to extend our agreement with Symantec to help protect our customers from unwanted e-mail.”

Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam will continue to filter spam at the incoming SMTP gateway, before it’s delivered to MSN Hotmail customers’ accounts. The solution’s best of breed technology features high detection rates, the industry’s highest accuracy rate against false positives (99.9999 percent), and the ability to handle large e-mail volume. Backed by Symantec Brightmail Reputation Services, Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam provides customers with superior protection against unsolicited junk e-mail by leveraging information collected from the Symantec Probe Network, which attracts spam from 20 different countries around the world.

“As spam continues to be a growing and evolving threat that requires protection at different points in the computing environment, Symantec is dedicated to providing customers with comprehensive solutions that reliably combat the problem with the latest spam fighting technology,” said Enrique Salem, senior vice president, network and gateway solutions, Symantec. “We are proud to continue our relationship with MSN through Symantec Brightmail AntiSpam, and we look forward to continuing to create a more productive communications experience for consumers.”
