DTS-HD Master Audio™ Makes European Market Debut at IFA 2007: Presents CE World with Pristine 7.1 for HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc
IFA 2007
With the opening of IFA 2007 in Berlin later this month, DTS (Nasdaq:DTSI) will demonstrate to the European Consumer Electronics (CE) community its category-leading DTS-HD Master Audio codec that provides a stunning gateway to pristine 7.1-channel sound for audio component manufacturers, content developers and, ultimately, consumers. Taking place August 31st through September 5th in Berlin, the show will also serve as a platform for leading CE brands including Sony, Samsung, Onkyo, Denon, Pioneer, Toshiba and Yamaha to launch DTS-HD Master Audio-enabled home theater components.
“This is the first wave of DTS-HD-featured products, and we expect to see the product offerings quickly expand in the coming months,” commented Brian Towne, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Consumer Division at DTS. “IFA 2007 serves as a springboard for the mass deployment of high definition audio to match the video, and DTS-HD Master Audio is leading the way. We are very pleased to contribute to the movement and to the advancement of high definition sound in a wide array of consumer applications.”
As films, games and music become more interactive and immersive, crystal clear 7.1-channel sound becomes even more essential to the entertainment experience. Underscoring this point are DTS’ HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc demonstration discs featuring DTS-HD Master Audio movie and music clips produced in 1080p high definition video with audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the master soundtrack. The discs, which will be showcased by A/V manufacturers at IFA, will include 7.1-channel tracks from famed musicians BT and Omar Hakim, as well as 5.1-channel tracks from Peter Gabriel and Pat Metheny, and clips from the films Ice Age: The Meltdown and Fantastic Four.
Members of the European CE community are invited to experience this technology for themselves and receive a comprehensive demonstration of the encoding/decoding technology that is making stunning 7.1-channel sound a reality for the next generation of home theater, gaming and audiophile technologies. DTS will have a presence at the IFA stands of HD DVD (Hall 21.A, Stand #104) and Blu-ray Disc (Hall 6.2, Stand #104 + 107), and will be holding demonstrations of DTS-HD Master Audio separately upon appointment.
About DTS-HD:
DTS-HD Master Audio is capable of delivering audio that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master and at super high variable bit rates — 24.5 Mbps on Blu-ray discs and 18.0 Mbps on HD-DVD. This bit stream is so fast and the transfer rate is so high that it can deliver 7.1 audio channels with 96k/24-bit sound identical to the original. With DTS-HD Master Audio, consumers will be able to experience movies and music, exactly as the artist intended: Clear, pure, and uncompromised.
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio can deliver up to 7.1 channels of sound that is virtually indistinguishable from the original. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio delivers audio at high constant bit rates superior to standard DVDs — 6.0 Mbps on Blu-ray Discs and 3.0 Mbps on HD DVD — to produce outstanding sound quality. It is capable of delivering up to 7.1 channels at 96k/24-bit depth resolution and allows content creators to deliver rich, high definition audio on movies where disc space may not allow for DTS-HD Master Audio.
