McMurray Dealing with the California Heat
No. 26 Sharp AQUOS Ford Fusion – CAN YOU REMEMBER A WEEKEND THAT HAS BEEN AS HOT AS THIS ONE? “I don’t think so. I was talking about that with Elliott Sadler last night and I don’t remember ever being this hot. I remember last year here it was really warm, but this is pretty unbelievable.”
WHAT STEPS DO YOU TAKE TO KEEP YOURSELF IN GOOD SHAPE FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW? “Once the sun goes down it certainly cools down a lot, but during Happy Hour and stuff like that I just try to drink a bottle of water everytime I come in off the track. It’s just kind of a routine for the guys to just give you a bottle of water and typically if you get thirsty, you’re already starting to get dehydrated, so you just try to keep fluids in and do the usual stuff that everybody knows.”
DO YOU NOTICE THE HEAT WHEN YOU’RE ON THE TRACK AND CONCENTRATING ON WHAT’S HAPPENING IN FRONT, BESIDES AND IN BACK OF YOU WITH THE OTHER CARS? “If you’re concentrating on what’s going on. Fontana is notorious for having long green-flag runs and sometimes you just get stuck in a position and you can’t go, so your mind maybe starts to consider how hot it is, but, for the most part, the heat really becomes noticeable under cautions.”
IS THE TOUGHEST PART OF THIS RACE TOMORROW NIGHT THE PORTION WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING DIRECTLY IN YOUR FRONT WINDSHIELD? “Yeah, and we’re gonna work on that today. We’re gonna try to get the tape on the windshield as low as you can get it without getting it so that you can’t see around the corner. That’s what we’re going to work on in Happy Hour today.”
