VUDU Goes on Sale Today, Ushering in New Era of Instant Access to Movies Directly in the Living Room

VUDU Inc., the company that brings to the living room instant access to thousands of hit movies, announced today it’s set top box is now available for purchase at the company’s online store and will offer more than 5,000 titles from every major U.S. film studio and more than 20 independent and international film distributors.

The availability of the highly anticipated VUDU box fulfills the promise created by high-speed broadband Internet to deliver instant access to thousands of movie titles directly on consumers’ televisions. Consumers now have the ultimate in flexibility and choice and can finally watch the right movie at the right time — no planning needed, no computer required, no software downloads and no cable TV service or satellite subscription required.

Offering Movies Consumers Want to Watch

Offering approximately 5,000 movies and previews — from major blockbusters just out on DVD to independent, international, and art-house films — with more titles added each week, VUDU has something for everyone.

A selection of movies available on VUDU at launch will include such recent blockbusters and critical successes as Dreamgirls, 300, The History Boys, The Hills Have Eyes 2, Ghostrider, Breach, Music and Lyrics, The Messengers, Zodiac, Little Children, Hot Fuzz, Shooter, The Last Mimzy, Curse of the Golden Flower, Fast Food Nation, The Descent, Deliver Us from Evil, Charlotte’s Web, and classics like Tootsie, To Kill a Mockingbird, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Double Indemnity.

Studio Partners

Over the past two years, VUDU has developed partnerships with all the major Hollywood studios and 20 independent and international studios and distributors in order to offer the best content available.

VUDU’s 20 independent and international studios and distributors complement the major studio titles with art-house and foreign features, documentaries, and educational programming. These partners include Associated Television, Echelon Studios, Educational Adventures, Eros Entertainment, Film Chest, First Look Studios, Granada International, Gravitas Ventures, Hart Sharp Video, Image Entertainment, Kino International, Media Blasters, Palm Pictures, PBS, Studio Canal, Tai Seng Entertainment, ThinkFilm, Troma Entertainment, Vanguard International Cinema, and Wolfe Video.

Pricing and Availability

The VUDU box retails for $399. Consumers pay for each movie on an as-you- go basis. There are no subscription or activation fees. Prices for one-time rentals range from $0.99 – $3.99, and prices for purchased movies range from $4.99 – $19.99, depending on the age of the movie.

VUDU is available for orders starting today at Vudu.com, with shipping expected before the end of September. VUDU will also be carried at high-end audio video and online retailers including Tweeter and Amazon.com starting in early October.
