Sun Microsystems IS NO.1 PLAYER IN THE NON-x86/unix Server market in INDIA FOR 2Q CY2007
Sun’s non-x86/UNIX server revenue up 13 percentage points on a year-on-year basis (2Q 2007 over 2Q 2006)
New Delhi, September 11, 2007: Sun Microsystems India announced here today that as per IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, 2Q 2007, August 2007 release, it has earned a leadership position in the Non-x86/UNIX server market in 2Q 2007 in India, with 60.1% market share in unit terms and 46.6% market share in revenue terms during 2Q 2007. Sun was also the #1 ranked vendor across segments in the non-x86/Unix, High-end, Midrange and Volume server segments in India, both in unit shipment terms as well as in revenue terms in 2Q 2007. Additionally, Sun continued to maintain its number three position in the India overall server market in 2Q 2007 in terms of revenues.
In the Non-x86/UNIX server segment in India, Sun was the only vendor whose revenue share increased on a quarter-on-quarter basis (2Q 2007 over 1Q 2007). Sun server shipments grew the fastest in the High-end and Volume server segments of the non-x86/Unix server market in India during 2Q 2007 on a quarter-on-quarter basis (2Q 2007 over 1Q 2007).
“We have maintained our position as the leading vendor in the India non-x86/UNIX server market for 7 years now since 1999 in terms of units shipments. We have also grown our market share in this segment in revenue terms on a year-on-year basis (2Q 2007 over 2Q 2006). While our systems continue to be favoured by mission critical sectors such as Banking and Telecommunications – to manage unpredictable user loads in fast-changing networked environments, we have also made significant inroads into newer segments and industry verticals. Our growth can also be attributed to increased market acceptance of our products and solutions as well as more customer acquisitions particularly in the mid-tier segment in the last one year”, said Bhaskar Pramanik, President, India GEM, Sun Microsystems India.
“The adoption of Solaris 10 continues to be a driving force of our leadership in the India server market,” Bhaskar further added.
According to Sanjit Sinha, Associate Vice President, Research, IDC India, “Sun has always had a stronghold on the non-x86/UNIX server market in the country and the latest figures ratify this. This significant increase in their market share can be attributed to a strong product portfolio, combined with their excellent sales and marketing effort.”
