New Delhi, September 13, 2007 – Sun Microsystems India is collaborating with TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), Delhi chapter to expand the scope of the Sun Startup Essentials (SSE) program across India. The program ( http://in.sun.com/startup) has been launched to provide the startup community access to key technologies and services to help them stay ahead of competition and get to market quickly by offering them discounts on a range of Sun’s industry-leading technologies and services and the ability to subscribe to Web hosting services from Sun partners at deeply discounted rates. As part of this collaboration, Sun will work closely with TiE on the various programs and initiatives run by TIE for its members.
The first such joint initiative is a seminar titled ” StartUp Essentials, Steps to Success’, will take place at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on September 14th. This comprehensive one-day seminar is free of charge and will cover critical aspects and issues on what is needed to make a startup successful. The seminar will feature eminent speakers from the industry and will cover areas such as learnings from successful start ups, importance of applying the right tools & technology practices, investment eco systems for start ups etc.
Sun is an avid supporter of building communities and through the Sun Startup Essentials program we’re able to share our experience as well as offer substantial discounts to these early stage companies,” said James Seymour, Senior Director of Market Development, APAC at Sun Microsystems. “We are confident that these programs will help the budding entrepreneurs in adopting and adapting technology to create a value proposition in the business environment”.
In today’s market, early stage companies are challenged to quickly bring to market applications and to offer them with high scalability and availability within their limited IT budget. These startup companies are constantly looking for ways to become more efficient with their resources while they have to plan for success. Sun provides startups with an opportunity to help them reach their full potential through the Sun Startup Essentials program, which was launched in the United States in November 2006 and approximately 800 companies have applied for the program today. Sun is extending the program to India and the Peoples Republic of China due to the rapid growth in numbers of developers and startups in these regions. This extension is the first step in Sun’s larger BRICK (Brazil, Russia, India, China and Korea) strategy to expand programs to the world’s most vibrant, rapidly emerging markets.
Commenting on the program, Mr Rohit Agarwal, CEO, Tech Tribe and a TiE Delhi Charter Member said, ” On behalf of TiE I would like to congratulate Sun Microsystems for coming up with such a program and thus contributing to the development of a good early-stage ecosystem in India. This program is a step in right direction to ensure that start-ups will definitely foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among individuals. Our event, TiE Start up Essentials will address these pain points and provide solutions to the problems that budding entrepreneurs face to get their business up and running. ”
