Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that according to industry analyst firm Dell’Oro, it has strengthened its market leadership in DSL as well as IP DSLAMs at the end of the second quarter 2007.
With a total of more than 142 million DSL lines shipped, Alcatel-Lucent now has a cumulative market share of 41%, significantly more than triple that of its nearest competitor. According to Dell’Oro, the company also reinforced its leading position in IP DSLAM shipments with a 38% market share in the second quarter of 2007, thanks to the accelerated pace of introducing the ISAM platform all over the world.
The second quarter of 2007 represented a record quarter for Alcatel-Lucent’s DSL shipments with 9.6 million lines shipped. While shipments were largely driven by Asia Pacific and Europe, regions such as Latin America and North America also showed growth compared to last quarter.
In Europe, strong growth was recorded in countries such as Poland and Russia, along with continued dynamic with competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) in the UK and Germany. The introduction of IPTVservices also drives DSL deployment in countries such as Italy and Spain. Moreover, Alcatel-lucent was selected by Vodafone Portugal for a triple play-capable network solution to provide DSL-based services and integrated voice services. It was Vodafone Group’sfirst wireline broadband network and will support Vodafone Portugal’s expansion strategy. In Asia Pacific, the countries showing most traction were Singapore, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand, whereas in North America, Alcatel-Lucent has continued to roll out its ISAM equipment with major carriers.
With more than 165 customers deploying its ISAM product portfolio, including 80% of the top 20 DSL operators in the world, Alcatel-Lucent continues to be the undisputed leader in the DSL market.
