Alcatel-Lucent successfully deploys broadband network for Djaweb

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has successfully deployed a broadband access solution for Algérie Télécom Internet Djaweb (ATID), a subsidiary of the incumbent operator Algérie Télécom. Under the project, Alcatel-Lucent has delivered a turnkey network including more than 130,000 ADSL lines involving 276 sites. Alcatel-Lucent has also provided consulting services and marketing and sales support for Djaweb in its DSL subscription campaign.

Alcatel-Lucent has deployed a broadband multiservice network so that Djaweb can offer broadband Internet access particularly in rural regions and the outlying districts of urban centers. In future, more of the country’s population, particularly in the remotest regions, will have access to a good quality broadband service. This partnership between Djaweb and Alcatel-Lucent strengthens the telecommunications sector in Algeria.

“With an ADSL platform of more than 130,000 lines designed for the country’s 48 administrative divisions or “wilayas”, Djaweb is now ready to launch its broadband service simultaneously throughout the country, “ states Mrs. Houria Atif,CEO of Djaweb. “Djaweb chose Alcatel-Lucent as its partner because it is the leader in its field and because of its excellent reputation. Our aim is to offer Algerians the best possible quality of service”, she said.
