Redline’s RedMAX(TM) products chosen for first WiMAX network in Egypt

EgyNet and Alkan Telecom bring WiMAX to Sharm El-Sheikh as part of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) initiatives

Redline Communications Inc. (AIM: REDL), a leading provider of standards-based WiMAX and broadband wireless infrastructure products, today announced that its RedMAX(TM) family of WiMAX products have been chosen by EgyNet for its broadband wireless network in Sharm el-Sheikh, the Sinai peninsula’s popular tourist region and world renowned scuba diving area.

EgyNet, the licensed tier one Internet Service Provider, was licensed to provide wireless internet services to the region through the WIESC (While In Egypt Stay Connected) program of the USAID (United States Agency for International Development). The RedMAX network design, integration and roll-out are being managed by Alkan Telecom, a leading system integrator and Redline’s Certified Gold Partner in Egypt. The RedMAX network is being designed to serve the more than 3.5 million tourists that visit the region each year, as well as local area businesses and residents. The network will be expanded to cover more areas of the Sinai Peninsula in 2008.

“EgyNet joins the more than 125 operators around the world that have chosen Redline’s RedMAX products for its proven capacity, reliability and performance,” said Kevin Suitor, Vice President of Business Development, Redline Communications. “Carriers are seizing the opportunity to establish their broadband wireless market leadership by deploying Redline’s carrier-class. With advanced features such as our Redline Management System, rapid installation, and the ability to support more than 250 users per base station sector controller, RedMAX will enable EgyNet to deliver on its commitment to better serve visitors to Sharm El-Sheikh.”

According to Ahmed Abdel-Aal, Managing Director of Alkan Telecom, “the need for reliable Internet access is not a luxury anymore. It has become a necessity and adds to the value of Na’ama Bay not only as a great holiday destination but as a destination for business conferences and events as well. The new service makes internet available all around where customers can be connected from their hotel rooms, at the beach, by the pool in a restaurant or Café.”

Redline’s RedMAX(TM) Family

Redline’s RedMAX family of WiMAX solutions includes the world’s first complete system to receive the WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) mark for conformance to the WiMAX standards for performance and interoperability. Redline’s carrier-class RedMAX Base Station (AN-100U) supports voice, video, and prioritized data traffic, enabling long-range, high-capacity wireless broadband networks. Redline’s WiMAX products also include the RedMAX Indoor Subscriber Unit (SU-I) and Outdoor Subscriber Unit (SU-O) designed for enterprise and residential services. The RedMAX Management Suite enables operators to monitor and control the network, ensuring high service availability. Redline is maintaining its WiMAX leadership with the expansion of its RedMAX family to include products for additional frequency bands, applications and standards.

RedMAX 4C Mobile WiMAX Platform

The RedMAX 4C is the latest addition to Redline’s family of WiMAX products. Operating in the 2.5 GHZ and 3.5 GHz spectrum bands, RedMAX 4C is designed to conform to the requirements for 802.16e Certification Wave 2, which is the WiMAX Forum’s official certification program for Mobile WiMAX. Supporting a high concentration of subscribers, it enables operators to realize a rapid return on their WiMAX investment, with a low total cost of ownership.

The RedMAX 4C leverages Redline’s proven, field tested and optimized fourth-generation technologies for TDD (Time Division Duplexing)-based, scalable-OFDM-based systems. It provides carriers with an all-IP system that incorporates open standards to provide carriers the flexibility to deliver fixed, portable and mobile services with WiMAX. The new product family includes a modular, standardized MicroTCA (micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture) chassis base station that is small, lightweight and easy to deploy thereby minimizing site acquisition and construction costs and speeding up site buildout times. RedMAX 4C will also include a suite of indoor and outdoor fixed and portable end-user devices including laptops, mobile handsets and PDAs.
