Ingres joins forces with Business Objects to deliver enterprise-grade Business Intelligence to mid-market companies

Open Source Model Provides Users with a Cost-Effective All-in-One Business Intelligence Solution to Gain a Competitive Edge

Slough, United Kingdom, 15th October 2007 – Ingres Corporation, the leading open source information management company for enterprise applications, today announced a strategic relationship with Business Objects, the world’s leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, in which Ingres will integrate its enterprise-grade open source database with the BusinessObjects Edge Series. The packaged integration will provide mid-market companies with a powerful BI solution and significant cost savings. These solutions will be offered in the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan in 12 languages.

“Ingres has worked closely with Business Objects to deliver performance, compatibility, and an integrated installation to ensure our customers’ success right out the gate,” said Fred Gallagher, vice president of business development at Ingres. “The combination of our mission-critical, open source database with the feature-rich Edge Series platform results in a strong, yet simplified and easy-to-deploy BI solution.”

“This integration is exciting news for our solution providers and customers in the mid-market who have been looking for the benefits of an enterprise-grade, open source database,” said Todd Rowe, vice president and general manager, worldwide mid-market business at Business Objects. “Together, Business Objects and Ingres will offer flexible and affordable BI solutions with the mission-critical strength and reliability that mid-size companies are seeking. We look forward to working further with the Ingres team to deliver immediate and ongoing value to our customers.”

BI Demand in the Mid-Market
While widely accepted as a mission-critical component for large enterprises, BI now has become critical to a successful growth strategy for mid-market companies. These companies – firms with less than $1 billion in revenue or fewer than 1,000 employees – realise that they can no longer afford to run their business on spreadsheets if they want compete in the global economy.

Underscoring this demand, a recent Gartner Group survey conducted at the Gartner Midsize Enterprise Summit 2007 in May found that BI applications topped the list of the “Top Ten Technology Priorities,” for Mid-Market CIO’s for two years in a row displacing security enhancement tools. http://www.metrics2.com/blog/2007/02/15/top_10_business_and_technology_priorities_in_2007.html
