Changes Name to Reflect Full Reach – Becomes China Telecom Americas

China Telecom USA, the US-based subsidiary of China Telecom Corporation Limited, the largest landline telecom company in China, providing an extensive portfolio of data services between North America and China to multinational companies, announced today that it is expanding its services to Latin America. This is a strategic initiative and part of the company’s continued organic growth plan to better serve companies requiring access to China from around the world. As a result of the new market focus, the company is also changing its name to China Telecom Americas.

Bilateral trade between China and Latin America expanded from $200 million per year in 1975 to $70.2 billion per year in 2006 and is predicted to reach $100 billion per year by 2010. “We are very excited to announce our service expansion to Latin America,” said Donald Tan, President of China Telecom Americas. “Latin America is a key market for China. By expanding our customer base, service and network reach we are able to better serve the growing Latin America market. This is also a timely decision as we continue to experience strong growth in the United States and Canada over the last several years.”

Since 2000, China Telecom Group has invested steadily in network and service expansion in the Americas, providing the largest amount of bandwidth capacity between North America and China, and being the first Chinese integrated information services provider to expand into North America through its subsidiary, China Telecom Americas. Donald Tan continued, “With this continued growth and geographic expansion, we decided that the company’s name needed to reflect the company’s service to all of the Americas, as part of China Telecom Group’s commitment to becoming a key global information service provider.”
