IBM Leads In Worldwide Tape Revenue Share, According to Leading Market Research Firm

IDC, a leading IT market research and advisory firm, reported today that in the first half of 2005, IBM was once again the number one tape product vendor in the world based on branded factory revenue [1]. IBM continued to build upon its revenue leadership position it established in 2004.

The report indicated that at the close of the first half of the year, IBM held the top spot in worldwide tape revenue with a 30 percent share. IBM was also the number one vendor in terms of worldwide revenue for tape automation with a 26 percent share, and for enterprise tape drives with a 53 percent share according to the report.

“IBM created its tape business more than 50 years ago and is focused on a very simple strategy,” said Cindy Grossman, vice president, Tape Storage Systems, IBM. “IBM builds robust storage systems that are designed to deliver technology innovation to help address customer business problems including cost control, business continuity, data retention and information life cycle management.”
