Search meets social networking in a new service from hakia.com that integrates the search simplicity of Google with the transactional and communal elements of Craigslist

hakia.com, the Web’s new meaning based search engine, announced today immediate availability of the BETA version of its new service: “Meet Others ‘who asked the same query’. It gives Web searchers the opportunity to reach out to form networks around similar interests in one click of a mouse. Meet Others is the first and only system that allows users to form a room around highly specific topics or queries. The service is open for all to review posted responses, while providing those who post messages or responses, the option of determining how, and if, to be contacted, either by allowing one-to-one correspondence or through group postings.

Meet Others is initiated by entering a query at hakia.com search engine, then clicking on the Meet Others button which opens a room of postings by others who asked the same or similar query. The user can also go directly to meet.hakia.com to search for query rooms. Contact links are available for each posting, but user information is hidden from view. Registration is not required to view rooms and contact people, but posting requires user authentication via email confirmation. The entire operation is optional to participate.

According to Dr. Riza C. Berkan, CEO of hakia, “Meet Others service is one of the important pieces of our vision of the future Web search. We are integrating a shared user publishing system directly into a search results environment in an unprecedented ease-of-use. Users will benefit from the underlying semantic capabilities as we are continuously enhancing them.”

Ms. Melek Pulatkonak, COO of hakia, added “For example, when you enter the query ‘used cars in NYC’ at hakia.com, you can now meet others who asked the same question, and who might want to buy or sell used cars specifically in New York City. This all happens in a single mouse click.”

Due to its peer-to-peer transactional platform, hakia’s Meet Others service resembles craigslist.com, but is different from other social networking systems (such as Yahoo Answers, Stumble Upon, Meet up, Linked-in, etc.).
