PRYSMIAN Leads The Way At The International Wire and Cable Symposium (IWCS)
Milan, November 6, 2007 – Prysmian Cables & Systems will play a major role at next week’s 56th annual International Wire and Cable Symposium (IWCS), taking place at Lake Buena Vista, Florida, USA.
The company will present a total of six technical papers related to new developments in the telecoms environment, many of which are driven by the current surge in the broadband market.
Two of the papers relate to new cables for Fibre to the Home (FTTH) applications, one for indoor and the other for outdoor deployment. A further two papers look at the subject of optical fibre and how Prysmian has optimized its product range to suit the needs of the access network with both bend insensitive and reduced diameter fibre. Finally, two papers are devoted to long distance applications and look at the electrical and thermal performance enhancements in Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cables for use on high voltage overhead transmission lines.
The papers are the result of development work carried out both at local production facilities in Australia, Brazil and Italy and also at Prysmian’s Central R & D headquarters in Milan, Italy. The work emphasizes the company’s ongoing commitment to constant product improvement and innovation in the rapidly developing telecoms environment.
Prysmian will be presenting the Indoor Cables for FTTH Applications paper at 14.10 on Monday 12th November; on Tuesday 13th the Outdoor Pre-Connectorized Solution for One Man Customer Connection in FTTH Applications paper will be presented at 10.10; the Optimization of Optical Fibre Design for Access Networks paper will be presented at 13.25; the Theoretical Analysis of Current Density Distributions over the Cross Section of a Modified OPGW Cable to reduce the Skin Affect Area paper will be presented at 13.00; the Temperature Response of OPGW with Armoured Aluminium Covered Steel Wires – Aluminium Alloys Wires Submitted to Short-Circuit paper will be presented at 13.50 and the Optical Fibre with Reduced Outer Diameter paper will be presented at 10.10 on Wednesday 14th November.
