Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana to Present Best Business Practices; Paul Fremantle to Discuss Apache Synapse Enterprise Service Bus

APACHECON 2007

WSO2, the open source SOA company, will present at four sessions being held at APACHECON 2007, November 12-16, 2007 at the Westin Peach Tree Plaza in Atlanta, GA.

Founder and CEO of WSO2, Sanjiva Weerawarana will discuss best business practices for startups delivering solutions based on the Apache platform and deliver a presentation examining, WS-* vs. REST. Co-founder of WSO2, Paul Fremantle will deliver a training session on, “Deploying the Apache Synapse ESB in Your Enterprise.” Fremantle also will join the panel “The Great Apache SOA Bakeoff.”

November 13: Deploying the Apache Synapse ESB in Your Enterprise

The developer training session will focus on how the Apache Synapse ESB can be used to solve many of the enterprise integration issues faced today. End-to-end samples will show aspects such as proxy services and versioning, security, reliability and error handling, load balancing/failover, the use of multiple transports, pure binary/text and POX messaging support, and the use of scripting languages.

Presenter: Paul Fremantle

Time: Tuesday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m.

November 14: How to Run a Business Around The Apache Software Foundation

From underage hackers to CXOs of Fortune 100 companies, there’s one thing ASF members all protect fiercely: the mythical “Apache Way.” But how do you make money when the license is so truly free (unlike the GPL) and when one misstep results in a head-bashing? How do you convince Angels/VCs that the fact that startup companies haven’t made it around ASF projects is not a sign of impending doom? How do you organize the company so that it can balance business needs and the Apache Way? This session will help to answer those questions using real-life experiences.

Presenter: Sanjiva Weerawarana, Ph.D.

Time: Wednesday, November 14, at 5:30 p.m.

November 15: WS-* vs. REST: Facts, Myths and Lies

Which one is it? WS-* or REST? It turns out that both camps are lying through their teeth about how “easy” it is to build distributed business applications using their favorite technological approach. There is no easy way to build distributed applications; that’s simply a hard problem. WS-* and REST each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Knowing the realities of these different approaches for building distributed systems is critical for being able to make the right choices (and hence sleep restfully).

Presenter: Sanjiva Weerawarana, Ph.D.

Time: Thursday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m.

November 15: The Great Apache SOA Bakeoff

Apache has a number of SOA and ESB solutions, including Apache Synapse, ServiceMix, Tuscany and CXF. The panel brings together lead developers from each project—including Fremantle representing Apache Synapse—to provide an overview of how their technology fits into an organization and answer attendees’ questions.

Presenter: Paul Fremantle

Time: Thursday, November 15, at 5:30 p.m.
