IBM Automates Systems Management Software for Mainframe Environments

IBM today announced an expanded suite of new IBM Tivoli software products that automate real-time systems management and monitoring capabilities for its IBM eServer zSeries® infrastructure management solution. The Tivoli OMEGAMON software suite allows organizations to proactively detect, isolate, and repair application performance problems anywhere within their IT infrastructure.

This enhanced product suite integrates technology from IBM’s acquisition of Candle in 2004, creating a complete Tivoli systems management solution for zSeries customers.

The Tivoli suite provides the industry’s most comprehensive offering of monitoring capabilities for zSeries environments. Customers can use a common user interface to monitor their zSeries mainframe systems and proactively manage variable workloads found in complex enterprise environments. Customers are now able to lower the cost of ownership of their infrastructure by having an integrated view of the resources being utilized across their entire zSeries environment instead of having to rely on a patchwork of disparate architectures and solutions.

Providing a high-performance, zero-downtime environment involves multiple technologies — such as workload management and automation solutions — that help proactively adjust the infrastructure with shifts in demand. Systems management solutions ensure that applications are operating optimally with capacity planning products that help predict future technology needs.

For example, an insurance company can automatically detect and resolve potential network problems while managing their end-to-end mainframe environment using a common user interface. This can help the company reduce the cost and complexity of managing large data centers while maximizing availability and dealing with the day-to-day volatilities of their industry, such as a rise in claims due to a natural disaster.
