Speech recognition and speaker verification solutions from Nuance and developed by Emerging Technologies allow Dubai Municipality’s Environment officers to register violations across the city of Dubai using their natural voice

UK, London, 28 November, 2007 –. Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced that the Dubai Municipality is using Nuance speech recognition and speaker verification solutions to automate and optimize the procedure for reporting environment-related offenses in Dubai. Designed and deployed by Emerging Technologies, the new service will enable Dubai Municipality enforcement officers to quickly and conveniently capture and communicate an offender’s details, reducing the time between the offence being committed and a fine being issued.

The service’s speaker verification software confirms a Dubai Municipality officer’s identity, using the unique characteristics of their voice. Once their voice has been matched to their voice print, information about the offender, such as their vehicle type, registration number and fine type, can be communicated by the officer. This information is captured in real time using the system’s speech recognition software.

“The new service will eliminate the delays experienced with the methods adopted hitherto in reporting environmental violations. Automating this procedure using speech solutions will optimize the efficiency of this process,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality.

“The new bilingual speech recognition system will allow the Municipality’s environmental officers to call a direct line while they are on the move. Using their natural voice and voice print, the officers can instantly report the violation of various environmental-related offenses across the city,” he said.

Lynda Kate Smith, vice president and general manager, Nuance Care business unit, said: “With the local expertise of our partner Emerging Technologies, Nuance speaker verification solutions provide Dubai Municipality with an advanced method for both authenticating an officer’s identity.”

“The service offers a convenient and secure method for accessing the system to report details of environmental violations. From a business perspective, by improving the reporting system using speech, organizations can reduce the time needed to access information, thereby reducing the administration costs,” she pointed out.
