Leading Web browser company grows sales force in Canada and Mexico

Opera Software, the only company that puts the Web on any device, today announced the expansion of its sales force in Canada and Mexico with offices opening in Calgary, Alberta and Mexico City.

Opera recently announced the opening of its second US office, located in Mountain View, California, which now serves as the company’s headquarters in the Americas. This growth is part of Opera’s strategy to make its winning Web experience available to more end-users on any device. Opera’s US partners and customers include Google, Yahoo!, Adobe, Motorola, Palm, Nintendo of America, and Qualcomm.

Leading this expansion is Rod Hamlin, Senior Vice President for Opera in the Americas. Hamlin previously served as Nuance Communications SVP of Global Sales and brings more than 20 years of experience in building technology businesses with a strong emphasis on Internet and mobile technologies.

“Opera is in a unique and fortunate position in which we can leverage our proven, best-of-breed browser technology in a rapidly growing market such as the Americas,” says Rod Hamlin, SVP Americas, Opera Software. “End-users in the Americas are embracing a portable Web that is accessible while on the go. To meet this demand, the market is now flooded with networked devices – and Opera remains one step ahead of the game by already offering an optimized Web browser for these new devices.”
Opera in Canada

Canada’s wireless carriers are reported by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) to currently offer coverage to more than 98 percent of its population. TELUS Mobility, Bell and Rogers are the three largest Canadian carriers, with the former two being CDMA carrier and Rogers as the single GSM carrier in the country. Opera’s mobile products are successfully tracked on both networks globally and the company is poised to bring the same power to mobile users in Canada.
Opera in Mexico

By opening its office in Mexico City, Opera is launching into a 3G-ready Latin America with full Web content to drive new and exciting services. Opera’s partnership with Telefónica Móviles in Spain lays the groundwork for many other partnerships throughout Latin America. The 2007 Latin American Mobile Communications and Mobile Data Market Report lists Brazil as the fifth largest mobile market, in terms of subscribers, behind China, the USA, Japan, and Russia.

Opera’s worldwide headquarters is in Oslo, Norway and Opera has now opened regional offices in ten countries around the world. Opera Software has grown with the rapid increase of Web usage on multiple devices. The Opera browser’s speed, size and flexibility make it the browser of choice for manufacturers of all device segments looking for a feature-rich and full Web browser, such as Nokia, Nintendo, Motorola and Samsung. Its full range of browser products include the Opera browser for all major desktop platforms, Opera Mobile, Opera Mini, Opera for Wii and Opera Widgets.
