New Unit Will Focus Ericsson’s R&D Resources on Fixed and Mobile IP Products in Silicon Valley
Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company (NASDAQ:ERIC), today announced new leadership changes and the creation of a larger product unit that will merge Ericsson’s R&D resources in Silicon Valley for fixed and mobile IP products.
The new ”Product Area Packet Networks” will be headed by Georges Antoun, who is promoted to CEO of Redback from senior vice president of worldwide field operations, product management and marketing. Antoun joined Redback in 2001 and is a former Cisco vice president. To ensure a smooth transition, Kevin DeNuccio will retain the role of Redback president until April 1, when he will be promoted to the role of vice chairman and new strategy officer on Redback’s management board. In this capacity, DeNuccio will help drive Ericsson’s larger all-IP strategy with Redback Board Chairman Bert Nordberg, one of four executive vice presidents at Ericsson.
“Redback and Ericsson are transforming the way networks are built,” said Georges Antoun, CEO of Redback Networks. “In creating a new IP unit for fixed and mobile products, Ericsson is effectively tripling its R&D investments in Silicon Valley. Ericsson has put together an impressive portfolio of IP-based technologies. Kevin, Bert and I look forward to driving Ericsson’s network transformation strategy under a single unified IP umbrella.”
“Mobile broadband is the future and Ericsson is best positioned as the number one market leader in telecom to unify fixed and mobile networks under a single IP infrastructure,” said Kevin DeNuccio. “Georges’ strong technology background and sales leadership experience make him the perfect candidate to lead Ericsson’s network transformation strategy into all-IP networks. I look forward to my new role within Redback and Ericsson as we continue to expand our IP product portfolio and end-to-end solutions.”
