Funambol partners with Amobee to provide mobile operators
and service providers with major new revenue opportunity
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., February 6, 2008 – Funambol, the leading provider of Mobile 2.0 messaging software powered by open source, today announced it will preview its new ad-based open source mobile email solution at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 11–14. The company will also demonstrate a new version of its award-winning mobile email and PIM sync software on the latest mobile devices and platforms, including Apple iPhone, Google Android, RIM Blackberry, and more. Funambol will be located at stand #1J46 in Hall 1.
“The rising tide of rhetoric on mobile advertising leads to the fundamental conclusion that advertising will fuel mass market content, including mobile email, on mobile devices, just as it has done with all other mediums,” said Fabrizio Capobianco, CEO of Funambol. “We will demonstrate at Mobile World Congress how the combination of mobile advertising and open source provides mobile operators and service providers with a highly compelling and lucrative opportunity – now they can offer mobile email for the mass market at an unbeatable price point and generate significant revenue.”
Funambol saw its most successful quarter on record at the end of 2007, indicating that open source is accelerating the mobile market that is primed for explosive growth. Its strategy to integrate open source with the revenue potential of mobile advertising is expected to generate major new opportunities throughout the mobile ecosystem. Recent deals have been signed with Amobee Media Systems, the world leader in mobile advertising solutions for mobile operators; 1&1, the world’s largest web host; a major U.S. carrier; one of the three largest online portals in the world and two of the top five device manufacturers. All are seeing the major advantages that open source provides, including the broadest device compatibility, ultimate control and low cost.
