New Photobucket Applications for the World’s Largest Social Network to be Built on MySpace Developer Platform Launched this Week
Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com), the Web’s number one stand alone photo site, today announced that it will launch a series of applications for MySpace, the world’s most popular social network. Photobucket participated in the MySpace Developer Event on February 5, 2008 demoing a “Top Images” application built with the newly announced Developer Platform (http://developer.myspace.com), Photobucket was able to easily build, test and ultimately deploy its applications.
There are billions of photos and images stored on Photobucket and MySpace that represent the digital identities of millions of people. Through Photobucket’s applications, users will be able to express and shape their digital identity in new ways on their MySpace pages.
MySpace kicked off their MySpace Development Platform program on February 5, 2008 beginning a one month application development period allowing companies including Photobucket, time to build and test their applications. During that time, applications, including Photobucket’s applications, will not be visible to the MySpace community in order for developers to install, iterate, and test the security of their applications in a live environment.
In March 2008, the MySpace Developer Platform will be rolled out to users in the MySpace Application Gallery. Members will be able to add Photobucket applications, and other developers’ applications to both their home and profile pages.
“Photobucket pioneered the way that MySpace users incorporate images into their profiles, blogs and comments,” said Alex Welch, CEO of Photobucket. “With the launch of the MySpace Developer Platform, we are excited to have the opportunity to create new ways for users to share and interact with images and videos that are significant to them throughout their digital lives.”
As with all MySpace Developer Platform applications, Photobucket’s applications will be able to safely access publicly available profile information including a user’s friend list, interests, photos & albums, video, as well as status & mood. All of Photobucket’s applications will have real estate in five places within MySpace including:
A MySpace application profile (users can “friend” the apps)
Access to embed applications on the user homepage (inward facing—for you to see)
Access to embed applications on profiles (outward facing widget—for friends to see)
An application gallery listing
A canvas page
“MySpace has always had a relationship with the developer community, and today marks an evolution in our relationship,” said Kyle Brinkman, vice president and GM, MySpace Developer Platform. “The launch of our developer platform reinforces our commitment to this community. We look forward to the unique and engaging applications that the MySpace Developer Platform will inspire.”
