Ford Transit Connect Delivers Transportation Solution For Chicagoland’s Premiere Systems
For an innovative Chicago company built around connectivity, the new Ford Transit Connect could be the ideal vehicle.
Premiere Systems is a custom home integrator. Founded and staffed by self-confessed “nerds,” the firm specializes in providing seamless integration of home technology in large, luxury residential spaces. Best known for its work in the flagship Palmolive building, Premiere’s custom-designed systems integrate lighting, music, automated window shades, AV systems, climate systems and energy management technology.
This unique business has faced unique vehicle challenges. Until Transit Connect, no vehicle has addressed this 13-year-old firm’s special needs.
“We need versatility,” says Ken Johnson, CEO and president of the 30-employee firm. “We need flexible vehicles capable of accommodating multiple people while offering generous load capacity. SUVs don’t give us the load capacity, and a cargo van doesn’t allow more than two or three people to ride in it. I really like the Transit Connect as an alternative.”
Premiere Systems’ success has made its transportation challenges even greater. Deals to equip large condo buildings, like Chicago’s 50 East Chestnut with its 34, high-tech, full-floor residences, are pressuring the firm’s resources.
Trucks currently are used mainly to transport employees, equipment and tools. Because most jobs are downtown, Premiere Systems uses a taxi system for employees to shuttle project managers and installers. Transit Connect, with two available seating rows and commercial vehicle cargo capacity, can handle both jobs.
Johnson believes Transit Connect could help Premiere System be more efficient by eliminating the need to transport their people and equipment separately.
