Crn launches seagate’s storage application model (sam) to help resellers

Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX), the world’s leading hard disc drive supplier, announced today that CRN magazine has endorsed Seagate’s Storage Application Model (SAM) and has launched a CRN Test Center Endorsed version of the SAM tool for resellers and system builders to download and use. Seagate created SAM as a simple method to help customers choose the right drive for their application. The new CRN Test Center Endorsed SAM tool provides an interactive outline of application requirements, technology requirements and hard-drive design considerations to produce a clear understanding of why a particular disc drive works most effectively in each application.

“Seagate’s Storage Application Model tool helps select the right storage technology for everything from consumer electronics devices to enterprise storage,” said Frank Ohlhorst, director of CRN Test Center Labs. “It can definitely come in handy for deciding what drive to use in a new device, or to help illustrate the value of high-end drives to a solution provider’s customers.”

“For solution providers, the information contained in the tool is a good primer for newer technologies such as Serial ATA and Serial-Attached SCSI. It goes beyond simple white papers on those subjects by connecting the newer technologies to readily understood applications, not just stopping at an explanation of what those technologies are,” said Ohlhorst.

CRN will launch a communications effort to publicize the availability of its CRN Test Center SAM tool to its broad readership. Resellers and solution providers can also arrange for their own customized version of the SAM tool and offer it as a benefit to their own customers. The SAM tool may be hosted online, or downloaded for use on your local system.
