New Delhi, February 15, 2008- Sun Microsystems today announced details for Sun Tech Days in India. The event will be held for the second consecutive year in Hyderabad, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) from February 27 to February 29, 2008 with supporting sessions in Bangalore and Chennai.

Based on the theme of ‘Open Opportunities’, this year’s event will cover technologies such as JavaFX(TM), JRuby and other open source technologies in addition to Java(TM) Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE), GlassFish(TM) project, NetBeans(TM) Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), OpenJDK(TM), Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), OpenSolaris(TM), SOA using OpenESB and Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS).

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. KP Unnikrishnan, Director – Marketing, Alliances and Teleweb Sales, Sun Microsystems India said, “Over the last few years, we have seen our developer population grow rapidly to become a massive 6,31,000 strong community, making it the largest number for Sun worldwide. Our theme for this year’s event – Open Opportunities, as the name suggests, is focused on open source projects and communities. As one of the strongest proponents and the largest contributors of open source software, Sun believes in the concept of sharing technologies so as to grow communities, increase participation and build new markets. The open source model offers liberties to every user and developer, which encourages collaborative innovation and this is what we wish to drive home with this year’s event.”

Elaborating further on the theme of Open Opportunities, Mr Unnikrishnan said, “ Our message to the developer community is clear – abundant opportunities are available at Sun Tech Days for them to develop their skills, share their knowledge and participate in communities changing the face of technology.”

“Based on the overwhelming response received last year in Hyderabad, Sun Tech Days comes back to the city and its vibrant developer population. This is the first time a city has been repeated for consecutive Sun Tech Days in India. Together with the other venues of Bangalore and Chennai, the three hubs for software development in India, this year’s Sun Tech Days will address the majority of India’s software developer population, said, Mr. Naveen Asrani, Manager, Developer Relations India, Asia South & Australasia, Sun Microsystems Inc.

“The presence of software stalwarts from Sun as speakers and the addition of several new technology tracks will be a further draw for the developer and academic community. This year’s event will also be much larger in its scale and from a content perspective – we have a total of 16 tracks, 95 sessions and three keynotes spread over the three days of the event. Sun Tech Days India will provide a platform to help many of the finest software developers in the country hone their Java technology and Solaris(TM) Operating System development skills and turn those learnings into real value for themselves and for their employers.”

The event will be supported by Oracle, AMD, Intel, Ericcson, Nokia, CollabNet, Sybase, Accenture, Webex, Parasoft amongst others.
