Stone Edge Technologies “Decision Brief” Highlights Key Factors for E-Merchants to Consider when Selecting an Order Management System

Stone Edge Technologies, a leading provider of e-commerce software for small-to-medium Web retailers, has published a white paper for e-merchants that emphasizes the benefits of order management automation and examines the pros and cons of three different solutions.

Entitled “Factors to Consider When Choosing an Order Management System,” The Stone Edge Technologies white paper targets Web retailers whose businesses have grown too large to effectively process orders manually and are faced with choosing a system to automate their order management. The document examines the three major order management options available to e-merchants: 1) utilize the solution offered by an online storefront provider, 2) purchase a software solution and install it locally, or 3) employ a “software as a service” solution. It then helps e-merchants navigate this challenging decision by evaluating each approach according to three “C” factors: cost, control, and customization.

The Stone Edge Technologies white paper emphasizes that successful e-commerce businesses are built on quick and accurate order processing and delivery. Online retail sales continue to grow—by 21% in 2007 according to Forrester Research—however e-merchants face stiff competition. Given the vast number of online vendors from which to choose, customers seldom give e-merchants a second chance. Order processing mistakes are detrimental. For even very small e-commerce businesses, an order management system has become vital for success and growth.

“The growing consensus is that six or more orders a day require an automated order management system,” says Barney Stone, president of Stone Edge Technologies. “For small e-commerce businesses, there is a lack of comparative data on the types of solutions available. This white paper discusses how order management is critical to improve order accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, and then provides readers with metrics to evaluate which type of solution is best for their business based on their priorities and needs.”
