HP Continues No. 1 Position in Worldwide Total Disk Storage Systems

HP closed out 2004 as the leader in worldwide total disk storage systems factory revenue for the 11th consecutive quarter.

HP led the market with 24.2 percent market share and revenue growth of 19.8 percent quarter over quarter according to market data released today by IDC.(1)

In the open SAN (storage area network) market, HP closed the fourth quarter of calendar year 2004 with 27.5 percent market share. HP also holds the No. 1 market position in total open SAN unit shipments for the quarter. During the last three months of 2004, HP shipped more SAN units than the next two competitors combined, reflecting HP’s focus on increasing the accessibility of SANs for small and mid-size business customers.

HP outpaced market growth in the emerging NAS (networked-attached storage) market. IDC reported that HP grew full calendar year 2004 NAS revenue by 46 percent.

“HP continues to make steady progress in a challenging market,” said Bob Schultz, senior vice president and general manager, StorageWorks Division, HP. “We finished 2004 shipping nearly 30 percent of SAN units, underscoring our ability to tap the growth markets of networked storage.”
