According to a report from the Federal Trade Commission Released February 7, 2007 – 3.7 percent of the population (8.3 million Americans adults) were victims of identity theft – 5% of the victims were children. Security software developer CyberDefender Corporation (www.cyberdefender.com) (OTCBB:CYDE) is seeking Beta Testers for its latest security tool this time focused to protect users from identity theft and other online threats. This toolbar is currently available for Internet Explorer and can be downloaded for free from http://www.myidentitydefender.com.
“Identity theft continues as one of the most painful and fastest growing types of attack on people from all walks of life”, said Rob Enderle, Principal Analyst for the Enderle Group. “The identification of hostile or potentially hostile sites is one of the most common ways to keep this kind of attack from being successful. It simply makes sense to rely on a security vendor like CyberDefender because security is their specialty for this kind of solution.”
CyberDefender’s MyIdentityDefender Toolbar v1.0 BETA brings needed security enhancements to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser and is an upgrade and replacement for the companies previous toolbar safeSEARCH 2.0. MyIdentityDefender Toolbar v1.0 offers protection against the loss of personal information and helps ensure user privacy by alerting to valid vs. phishing sites with real time threat data to make sure you always have the most up to date threat assessment information available. This toolbar looks at increasing incidents from Web 2.0 platforms and provides users the ability to preview website security ratings and user ratings before entering a selected website.
In addition, MyIdentityDefender v1.0 provides instant access to critical site details such as site owner, host country, IP address for the site, contact information, popularity ratings, and a brief site description to help users make an informed decision before entering a potentially unsafe website. MyIdentityDefender v1.0 also helps users clearly distinguish between safe and dangerous websites within search results from Google, MSN, Yahoo and AOL, among other search portals. Each time users search via their favorite search engine, MyIdentityDefender v1.0 displays a useful website rating icon within the search results. When users mouse over the icon, MyIdentityDefender 1.0 displays a brief rating breakdown and navigates them to more detailed information about the website.
Benefits of MyIdentityDefender v1.0 include:
ID Alert – Alerts you of suspicious activity in real time, before you become a victim of identity theft and potential fraud, including removing saved password data and educating users about cookies and IP tracking, among other safety features.
Website Security Rating – Proprietary Red/Yellow/Green security rating system alerts users to possible phishing scams in real-time blocking the URL and suggesting alternative sites.
Secure Search – Delivers safer search results by displaying a website rating icon alongside search results from all the major search engines and includes community website ratings, the site’s IP address and country of origin, among other info to distinguish reliable, trustworthy sites from those that are questionable.
Website Recommendations – While searching the web users will come across sites that are rated low by other users. MyIdendityDefender will provide users with alternatives to low rated sites with at least 2 to 3 high rated sites so that users end up with a better experience.
User Ratings – Puts users in control of their surfing experience giving them access to website reviews from other CyberDefender users, ability to post their own reviews, warn others of questionable sites or share info and ratings on trustworthy websites.
Pop-Up Blocker – Prevents new windows and potentially malicious pop-up ads from automatically opening when you visit a website giving you the option to select which to block or allow.
“Computer users need better ways to protect themselves from ID Theft and malicious websites. Threats are happening too fast and browser applications are not equipped to protect users as fast as threats are appearing. With our newest toolbar, users can quickly and easily distinguish between a dangerous and a trustworthy website, protecting them and their identities before it’s too late,” said CyberDefender CEO Gary Guseinov. “The “MyIdentityDefender” toolbar provides consumers with the latest in frontline defense when surfing the Internet,” Guseinov concluded.
Several new features within CyberDefender’s MyIdentityDefender toolbar v1.0 allow users to quickly identify a website’s trustworthiness via a five-star rating system, giving them more information and more choices, quickly and easily. Additionally, MyIdentityDefender v1.0 users can easily read website reviews from other CyberDefender users, post their own reviews and ratings, and share their experiences with friends from their network. MyIdentityDefender v1.0 also provides alternative website suggestions for sites that have a low community ranking, making it easier for users to find the safest websites.
