Linux Software Subscription Accelerates Embedded Development
Embedded Systems Conference
booth #946

Timesys Corporation (http://www.timesys.com), a premier provider of embedded Linux software solutions, today announced the availability of a Free Board Support Package (BSP) for the Freescale i.MX27 multimedia applications processor. Additionally, the free Freescale BSP (http://www.timesys.com/freescale) can be upgraded to a full LinuxLink subscription, providing a powerful suite of software, tools and support to accelerate the development of a custom Linux platform.

Ideal for rapid design validation, the free BSP enables application developers to boot Linux on the i.MX27 ADS Evaluation Board within a few hours. It includes a Linux kernel, relevant device drivers, toolchain and an initial root file system. Together with a full documentation set and basic support, this offering provides a ready-to-use solution to validate Linux with the Freescale i.MX27 processor.

By upgrading to a full LinuxLink subscription, developers can rapidly “roll their own” customized embedded Linux software platform with access to an expanded set of pre-compiled and tested Linux components, based on the new 2.6.24 Linux kernel. LinuxLink subscribers will also enjoy a rich suite of integrated device drivers and hundreds of glibc/uClibc packages. The LinuxLink subscription also includes a robust collection of open source and Timesys-developed tools, including the TimeStorm Eclipse-based IDE, as well as extensive documentation and support.

“We are excited to announce embedded Linux support for the i.MX27 processor,” said Greg Quiggle, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Timesys. “With LinuxLink, our customers can rapidly develop multimedia devices via access to a powerful suite of drivers and packages, including audio and video players, web browsers, image viewers, and a full graphical environment with touchscreen.”

LinuxLink for i.MX27 will be demonstrated in the Timesys booth (#946) at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, CA on April 15-17, 2008. Timesys will also be demonstrating the i.MX27 ADS Evaluation Board running a full suite of multimedia applications from LinuxLink.

Both the free BSP and LinuxLink subscription are available at http://www.timesys.com/freescale.
