OpenService, a leader in Enterprise Event and Information Management, today announced that IBM has certified interoperability of NerveCenter Network Management and Event Correlation software with IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus®. To facilitate the integration, IBM developed a Netcool/OMNIbus Probe for OpenService NerveCenter that specifically enables Netcool/OMNIbus to collect processed events from NerveCenter. OpenService has recently joined the IBM Tivoli Netcool Technology Program, to demonstrate its commitment to enable IBM to update and support the integration against future releases of the NerveCenter product as required.
“IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus provides support for a broad range of network devices, element/network management systems, and third party management tools, serving as an event manager of managers,” said John Krachenfels, director of event and network management solutions, Tivoli Software, IBM. “The Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Probe for OpenService NerveCenter is a reflection of our commitment to work with partners like OpenService to ensure interoperability between our products, in support of customer needs. The integration enables customers to leverage their investments in both NerveCenter and Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus correlation and analysis tools, improving the interoperability and value of both management systems.”
NerveCenter Adds Value to One Communications operational support system
“Integrating NerveCenter into our Operational Support System (OSS) based on IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus software was a snap,” said Justin Davidson, Manager of Network Management Systems at One Communications, the largest privately held competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in the US. “We have grown through M&A and NerveCenter allows us to consolidate legacy systems quickly. Each NerveCenter actively polls more than 25,000 nodes with little effort. As we add new customers to our network, they are automatically synchronized into NerveCenter for polling.”
Davidson said that NerveCenter enables his staff to quickly create and change ICMP and SNMP polling models without having to make external integrations or download large numbers of program module dependencies. “We have hundreds of different network element types and hundreds of MIBs to load and monitor with many new types added weekly. Yet within minutes, we can quickly audit our network and effortlessly change our models to meet our evolving needs,” Davidson continued. “NerveCenter is the only product I’ve found that can do this at this scale. It consistently delivers what it promises – and in the end, it is our customers who benefit the most.”
Art Zins, Vice President of Business Development at OpenService said that tight integration of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and NerveCenter using the NIM ensures that customers are able to map network events to specific business services: “NerveCenter adds value by analyzing data from multiple sources correlating it according to the way services use the underlying network elements. This service-level intelligence provides customers with a unique view into the performance, health, and risks associated with essential business services as well as the ability to identify the root cause of any service related problem,” Zins said.
More than 1,000 service providers, including all of the top 20 service providers, rely on IBM Tivoli Netcool software to ensure their most critical services are performing to the highest standards. Through participation in the Tivoli Netcool Technology Program, OpenService helps Netcool/OMNIbus customers tie together all aspects of their service delivery, from security-related events to performance and fault information regarding servers, storage systems, databases, applications, and network devices.
