Ascom (US) Inc., a leading developer of on-site wireless communications solutions today announced the impending launch of the 9d24 EX handset which meets regulatory requirements for Class 1, Zone 1 and 2 hazardous locations and will be certified for use in North America during 2Q08. The 9d24 EX handset is part of Ascom’s enterprise grade Freeset IP-DECT system which seamlessly integrates personal alarm functions, voice communication and advanced messaging. The Freeset IP-DECT system is based on the advanced technology of Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony (DECT) 6.0 standard and will neither cause nor experience interference from other wireless devices or electronic equipment.
The 9d24 EX was specifically designed for use in harsh, volatile environments where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases or vapors are not always present, but such concentrations may exist periodically even under normal conditions. The deployment of Ascom’s IP-DECT system with this new handset will improve productivity and safety while ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws.
“Worker safety has been pushed to the forefront as workers have become more mobile, making the need for wireless devices to communicate effectively in hazardous environments absolutely paramount,” said Chad West, President & CEO of Ascom (US) Inc. “We are delighted that we will soon be able to provide these workers with the industry’s first dedicated on-site wireless handset that can be used in hazardous environments to improve communications, productivity, and most importantly worker safety. Our expansion into industrial hazardous locations is also consistent with our strategic focus on market segments for which communications is viewed as mission-critical.”
