Taking Claim Over the Formerly-Known Coors Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, Cricket Wireless Secures Name of San Diego’s Top Outdoor Concert Venue and Demonstrates Long-Term Commitment to America’s Finest City

San Diego’s largest concert venue just got a brand new name – Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre. Today, Cricket Communications, Inc®, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, announced the amphitheatre’s new name in support of the company’s expanded wireless service and ongoing commitment to supporting the San Diego community.

The new name of the amphitheatre was officially announced today by Randy Newman, Area General Manager for Cricket Wireless, San Diego and Nick Masters, President for Live Nation, Southern California.

“Cricket Wireless is delighted with this unique opportunity to expand and showcase our presence in San Diego,” said Randy Newman, Area General Manager for Cricket Communications, Inc. “We look forward to sharing all the exciting performances at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre with the thousands of visitors who enjoy this top outdoor venue in town.”

Cricket is widely recognized as a strong community partner and the new sponsorship of Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre further demonstrates Cricket’s long-term commitment to San Diego. The company expects to use the facility in support of its major philanthropic partnerships including The New Children’s Museum in San Diego, Make-A-Wish Foundation® of San Diego and more.

“We are excited to have Cricket Communications as a partner,” said Nick Masters, president of Live Nation, Southern California. “Given their strong ties to the local community and long time support of live entertainment, we think this is a great fit for the venue and for San Diego.”

Following the Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, Arizona, the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in San Diego County, Calif. signifies the company’s claim of a second major entertainment venue in the Southwest region of the US.

Since Leap Wireless, Cricket’s parent company in San Diego, introduced Cricket Unlimited Wireless Service to San Diego in 2006, Cricket has grown to provide outstanding service to a vast number of customers in San Diego and more than three million customers nationwide. With nearly 400 employees throughout San Diego, Cricket Wireless is proud to put the spotlight on its service offering, founded on a simple principle of providing affordable wireless service to its customers. The company is a pioneer in offering truly unlimited services, with no restrictions on who you can call, when you can call, or how long you talk.

San Diego concert goers will enjoy the rollout of Cricket’s presence at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre as the venue launches its tenth season with this Sunday’s concert, RBD, the Mexican teen pop sensation. In the next few weeks, Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre will debut a new venue logo, new signage and other special promotions.

Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre will also be host to a line-up of impressive concerts coming to town including Def Leppard with Styx and REO Speedwagon on April 26, The Police with special guest Elvis Costello & The Imposters on May 26 and Kenny Chesney with LeAnn Rimes on May 29, among others.

About Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre

Formerly known as Coors Amphitheatre, Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre is located in Chula Vista, California, a few miles from downtown San Diego. This venue was the first in the area to be constructed primarily for outdoor concerts. Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue that offers more than 9,000 reserved seats. In addition to these seats, more than 10,000 additional fans can pack the lawn area. This makes for an overall capacity of nearly 20,000.
