Roy Fielding to Deliver Keynote; Day Developers to Present on Open Source and the Java Content Repository API
ApacheCon Europe 08
Day Software (SWX: DAYN, OTCQX: DYIHY), a leading provider of global content management and content infrastructure software, announced today that the company’s chief scientist, Roy Fielding, will present a keynote at the annual ApacheCon Europe show in Amsterdam on Friday, April 11, titled “Apache 3.0 (a Tall Tale).” In addition, Day developers Bertrand Delacretaz, Carsten Ziegeler and Jukka Zitting will give presentations addressing open source and the Java Content Repository (JCR) application programming interface (API).
In advance of his keynote, Fielding will give a presentation on Thursday, April 10, titled “A Little REST and Relaxation,” which will focus on Representational State Transfer (REST), an architectural style that Fielding developed while improving the core Web protocols (URI, HTTP and HTML) and leading them through the IETF standardization process. REST has been used by many as a source of guidance for Web application design. This presentation will provide conference attendees with an in-depth overview and introduction to REST, and the design goals behind its evolution as the Web’s architectural style. It will also focus on the design goals and trade-offs that influence the development of network-based applications.
Bertrand Delacretaz, senior developer for Day, will give a presentation on Wednesday, April 9, titled “Open Source Collaboration Tools are Good For You!” The presentation will show attendees how corporate teams can work more efficiently leveraging the same collaboration tools and principles that open-source projects use. Delacretaz will also provide a list of collaboration tools ranked according to their effect on a team’s efficiency.
On Friday, April 11, Carsten Ziegeler, a senior developer for JEE and portal applications at Day Software, will give a presentation titled “JCR in Action – Content-based Applications with Apache Jackrabbit.” Ziegeler’s presentation will address how the JCR API is the ideal solution to store hierarchical structured content and develop content-oriented applications. To demonstrate the basic architecture of such applications, Ziegeler will develop a content management application during the session. Basic techniques will be explained, including navigation, searching and observations by using the Apache Jackrabbit project.
Jukka Zitting, senior developer for Day, will also give a presentation on Friday, April 11, titled “File System on Steroids – an Introduction to JCR.” During this presentation, Zitting will discuss how the JCR standard provides a rich hierarchical content model with features like structured and unstructured content, full-text search, versioning, transactions and observation. This presentation will introduce attendees to the JCR API and Apache Jackrabbit, the fully featured Apache implementation of JCR.
