BAE Systems has received a $71.5 million follow-on order from the U.S. Army for the purchase of Battery Powered Motorized Traversing Units (BPMTU), part of the Objective Gunner’s Protection Kit.

The BPMTU assists the gunner in rotating the armored turret and is used on High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV), including models M1114 and M1151, and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. Under this contract, BAE Systems will deliver more than 12,000 Battery Powered Motorized Traversing Units.

“The BPMTU demonstrates BAE Systems’ ability to create innovative products for our Soldiers and Marines. Receipt of this contract supports our promise to exceed customer expectations and to deliver high quality products they can trust,” said Tony Russell, vice president of Vehicle Armor Programs for BAE Systems.

Production for the BPMTUs will be performed in Cincinnati, Ohio, is expected to be completed this year and is managed by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command.

BAE Systems employs more than 1,600 people in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cincinnati has almost 1 million square feet of manufacturing and office space and a state-of-the art ballistic glass plant. The manufacturing plant has played a vital role in both the Caiman and RG33 MRAP programs by providing armor systems for both vehicles. BAE Systems also manufactures up-armored vehicles, commercial armored vehicles, integrated armor kits and accessories for a full range of tactical wheeled vehicles, combat vehicles and construction equipment.
