Digital Communities Starter Kit Provides Comprehensive Mobile Government Solution That Transforms Communities
City governments can extend the reach of their employees to vital information, applications and processes for managing land use and community development activities with a new Land Management Starter Kit developed by members of the Digital Communities Initiative.
The starter kit is comprised of software applications, “ruggedized†mobile computers and wireless networking products that enable workers in the field to access the same information and processes that they have in their offices. For example, building inspectors can increase productivity by using handheld computers connected to city computer systems over a wireless mesh network to issue permits, process licenses, conduct code enforcement and other activities in real time, saving time and money while increasing the responsiveness to citizens.
The Land Management Starter Kit is the first product delivered by the Digital Communities Initiative, a collection of technology companies that have joined together to provide solutions that help forward-thinking governments transform their operations, increase economic vitality, and enhance the livability of their communities. The program combines technology and services from some of the world’s leading technology companies including Accela, Cisco Systems, Intermec, Intel Corporation and Panasonic.
