Contenta Increases Usability Of S1000D Data Throughout The Editorial, Publishing And Delivery Chain

It is used by authors, editors and publishers for the creation, management and delivery of technical documentation.

Contenta S1000D provides an integrated workflow that can clearly distinguish between work-in-process and approved or published content. It can control access to data modules based on user roles and project status, provide locking mechanisms to prevent inadvertent parallel editing, and provide reports on due dates and status throughout the entire editorial and publishing process.

This update to Contenta S1000D includes enhancements that automate many of the tasks required in an S1000D environment. Tools for creating and managing Standard Numbering Systems, Data Module Requirements Lists, Data Dispatch Notes and S1000D project management have been improved to provide an out-of-the-box S1000D environment that will work well for organizations at any stage in the adoption of S1000D.

Highlights of this latest version of XyEnterprise’s Contenta S1000D software include:

Role-based user interfaces: A new intuitive interface allows S1000D managers to easily create and manage Data Module Requirements Lists, upload content via simple “drag-and-drop,” assign S1000D projects, distribute work to appropriate internal or contract personnel with pre-approved workflows, and track the status of projects. This new working environment eliminates much of the manual work associated with S1000D projects, resulting in fewer errors and less time spent on tedious activities.

There is also an updated user interface for parallel publishing to multiple channels. IETMs/IETPs and PDFs can be created at the same time, with just one click.

Enhanced cross-referencing support for all content types: The validate feature has been enhanced to work across all data module types, and at any level of the Common Source Database hierarchy recursively. Enabled across each of the tools specific to S1000D (upload, edit, export DDN, publish), this powerful program ensures that accurate information is available about the completeness and accuracy of the data. Mistakes in publishing and errors in managing data are eliminated because the user can easily determine the relationship of the data to all other data to instantly identify if something is missing.

AJAX: AJAX is a key technology component of the Web-based interfaces and tools. It allows Contenta S1000D to provide immediate feedback as data is processed, saving an end user significant time that was previously spent waiting for processes to complete before seeing any results. Results are delivered in real-time, enabling real-time decisions.

The Contenta S1000D software leverages Contenta’s object-oriented architecture, history, version control and automated workflow. It can also manage and store legacy SGML and XML content written to other standards, as well as graphics and unstructured content such as FrameMaker and Word. Contenta S1000D provides the infrastructure, application integration and comprehensive tool set required to effectively work with the S1000D standard across the information lifecycle.
