SAMSUNG Unveils Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung in Piazza Solferino

Three days before the opening of the XX Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Worldwide Olympic Sponsor Samsung unveiled its Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung (OR@S). Located in Piazza Solferino, in the historic city center, the pavilion has been designated by TOROC as “The Official Meeting Place of Athletes and their Families” and is the centerpiece of Samsung’s on-site programs for fans and athletes at the Torino Games.

Present at the OR@S Opening Ceremony were: IOC Chairman of the Marketing Commission Gerhard Heiberg, TOROC President Valentino Castellani, Mayor of the City of Torino Sergio Chiamparino, City of Torino board member Elda Tessore, Samsung Vice Chairman and CEO Jong-Yong Yun, and five-time Olympic medalist and Samsung global athlete ambassador Alberto Tomba. A must-see attraction at the Olympic Games since its first appearance in Sydney in 2000, Samsung’s OR@S welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors in Sydney, Salt Lake City in 2002 and Athens in 2004 combined.

“Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung has been one of the most popular spots for fans and athletes since Sydney,” said Jong Yong Yun, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics. “We have created a space where people can relax, warm up, and share their passion for sports and the Olympic Games. We invite our friends from Italy and around the world to stop by and see us in Torino.” Inspired by the influence of Italian style and the Olympic spirit, gold was chosen as the main color of OR@S to represent top performance and success. Samsung designed Torino’s OR@S with a sloping golden roof to resemble the rolling hills surrounding Torino. This simple and dynamic architectural design was based on the Samsung oval logo.
