Leading Network Management Vendor Establishes EMEA Headquarters in Support of Growing Customer Base; Open Source Initiatives, New Product Release and Expanded Partner Network Generate Continued Market Momentum

Infosecurity Europe 2008

AlterPoint, Inc. (www.alterpoint.com) a leading provider of open network management software, today announced the launch of its EMEA operations headquartered in London. Bolstered by increasing demand for the company’s open network management solutions, AlterPoint’s expansion will be led by Dave Barry, vice president and managing director of EMEA, and focus on providing localised sales, marketing and pre-sales support to the company’s growing customer and partner base across Europe.

“In the last fiscal year, AlterPoint experienced more than 80 percent sales growth in EMEA, a figure that shows our message and strategy are resonating globally,” said Scott Harmon, CEO of AlterPoint. “We are committed to build on this success as we expand operations regionally, establishing closer ties with our European customers, partners and prospects.”

AlterPoint’s Open Network Management Initiative will serve as the guiding vision behind its EMEA customer acquisition strategy. Recently, the company achieved two important milestones in its effort to help enterprises gain comprehensive control over multi-vendor networks using open management solutions: the Mako release of Network Authority, AlterPoint’s flagship open network management solution; and the launch of ZipForge, a network management exchange that provides networking professionals, tools developers and equipment vendors access to a growing collection of adapters, script tools, best practices and other management components based on the ZipTie open network inventory framework.

Highlights and accomplishments of AlterPoint’s Open Network Management Initiative include:
Launch of ZipForge (http://forge.ziptie.org) – the first network management exchange where members of the ZipTie community and ZipTie Open Network Alliance (ZONA) can download, develop and share scripts, change templates, rules, policies, adapters, plug-ins and best practices. ZONA members currently include ADTRAN, CITTIO, Citrix, Concursive, Crossbeam, Force10, Fortinet, Juniper, Radware, Riverbed, Silver Peak Systems and Vyatta, among others.
Growing Open-Source Community – more than 2,000 users joined the ZipTie community in 1Q 2008, bringing total ZipTie membership to 8,600.
Release of the ZipTie Development Environment (ZDE) – enables the open source community to create, edit and extend management components that can be used with ZipTie, NetworkAuthority and other management environments that adopt the ZipTie framework.
“Mako” Release of NetworkAuthority – features an open, extensible architecture that leverages ZipTie as the foundation of the NetworkAuthority CMDB, allowing Network Authority users to easily download and drop in management components developed by the ZipTie community.
Commercial Support of ZipTie and ZipForge Community Components – AlterPoint now offers professional services for enterprises seeking support for ZipTie, as well as community-supplied management components.

“Software development was the first IT market to be dramatically affected by open source and community-based approaches, and now operations management is beginning to be similarly affected,” said James Governor, principal analyst at RedMonk. “Europe is a hotbed of open source use and innovation, and as such is a market ready for the change.”
