40 teachers from 20 reputed schools from across the country meet at a day long conference at IIT Delhi

New Delhi, Monday, April 21, 2008: LEGO Education, one of the world’s leading providers of complete robotics solutions designed to stimulate children’s creativity, problem-solving and team-working skills, and its Indian business representative – the Gurgaon based Techtronics India Limited organized an All India Teacher’s Conference on Robotics in Education at IIT Delhi. Over 40 teachers from 20 different schools of repute from across the country participated in the conference and deliberated upon the role of robotics in school education and discussed the ways and means of encouraging and supporting grassroots robotics activity amongst students in schools.

Said Mr. Sudhanshu Sharma, Managing Director, Techtronics (India) Ltd., “Techtronics is training teachers and helping in set up and development of robotic clubs in schools all across India. LEGO Education’s products are specifically designed for schools and come complete with teacher resources, training and course manuals making these products more suitable to education. We are adding value to the education process by introducing these activity oriented courses in schools.”

At these robotic clubs, students can learn uses of robots and gradually, even experiment with various types of the super cool machines — from sound-sensing robots to robots that may even play football! The use of robotics in education is aimed at helping children discover the science of circuits and by exploring the “nuts and bolts” of robots, how sensors are used in robots. This encourages children to tune their skills into building simple circuits and eventually, their own mini robots.

Mr. Apurva Kalia, Vice President, R&D, Cadence Design Systems said, “Robotics is an exciting field that integrates science, engineering, mechanics, electronics and programming. It encourages students to learn while building and constructing. It develops problem-solving, team-working and creativity in students and brings out their potential.”.

During the day-long conference, Mr. Apurva Kalia, Vice President, R&D, Cadence Design Systems made a presentation on ‘How to set up a robotics club in your school?’ and Professor Sudipto Mukherjee of IIT Delhi presented ‘Motor & Gear Ratio’. A presentation on ‘LEGO Science Concepts with Robot Demo’ was made by Amity International School, Noida and another on ‘Usability of website using robotics’ by the Apeejay School, Noida.
