Top Travel Application Now Available Though Developer Platform
(NEW YORK, April 28, 2008) — WhereIveBeen.com (WIB), one of the top travel applications, announced today that its social mapping application will launch on MySpace, the world’s most popular social network. The WIB application has 4.5 million users worldwide who utilize the map to share past and future travels with their friends graphically.
Appearing as a world map on a profile page, users click on locations creating a color-coded map of their travels. As one of the most popular and powerful social mapping applications with geography at its core, WIB users can easily and quickly share their personalized map and connect with friends (myspace.whereivebeen.com). WIB also uses Orbitz travel technology to power an on-site interactive flight finder, enabling users to find deals, plan and book travel to their favorite destinations. Empowered by MySpace’s newly announced Developer Platform (developer.myspace.com), WIB was able to easily build, test, and ultimately deploy the map.
MySpace first introduced their Developer Platform site on Feb. 5, 2008, beginning a one month application development period giving companies including WIB time to build and test their applications in a secure environment before going live to the MySpace community. On March 13, 2008, MySpace launched the public beta of the Application Gallery, enabling broader testing of approved applications by allowing public installation. MySpace members can now discover and add new applications from a variety of categories, including travel applications such as WIB, to both their home and profile pages.
“Through the open API, we’ve created a smooth, easy way for consumers to use the map application,” said Michael Dalesandro, CEO of WIB. “With the success of WIB on Facebook and Bebo, we’re eager to bring the popular WIB application to MySpace and their vibrant audience.”
As with all MySpace Developer Platform applications, WIB will be able to safely access publically available profile information including a user’s friend list, interests, photos & albums, video, as well as status & mood. WIB will have real estate in five places within MySpace including:
* A MySpace application profile (users can “friend” the apps)
* Access to embed applications on the user homepage (inward facing—for you to see)
* Access to embed applications on profiles (outward facing widget—for friends to see)
* An application gallery listing
* A canvas page
“The launch of the MySpace Developer Platform marks an evolution in our relationship with developers,” said Kyle Brinkman, vice president and general manager, MySpace Developer Platform. “We look forward to building relationships with top application developers, such as Craig Ulliott of WIB, while also enhancing the user experience with popular applications.”
