Ergonomically Designed and Innovative Accessories to Complement Professional Philips Dictation Products

Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI) (NYSE: PHG) today announced the launch of several dictation and transcription accessories designed for use with its professional dictation products. Specifically geared towards high-volume dictation users, the new accessory range includes ergonomic stereo headphones and high-sensitivity interview microphones, as well as a docking station for computer-free file transfer.

“New technologies and sophisticated products have led to the revival of dictation. The switch from analog to digital devices is well advanced and entire industries rely on dictation recorders to digitally record data, streamline workflows, save costs and improve customer service,” explains Thomas Brauner, CEO of Philips Speech Processing. “These benefits can be multiplied through a variety of innovative accessories that allow individual customization to bring even greater gains in productivity and efficiency to documentation-intensive organizations. They ensure that customers get the very best out of a Philips solution.”

Microphones

Available accessories in this category include a plug-in microphone, tie clip microphone, microphone/earphone combination, and conference microphone.

The plug-in microphone and tie clip microphone can be used to transform a Digital Pocket Memo or Digital Voice Tracer into an interviewing recorder. In addition, the tie clip microphone can be attached to clothing for hands-free recording.

The conference microphone – which recently received the International Forum (IF) Product Design Award 2008 for its unique appearance and innovative functionality – uses the acoustic pressure of a table surface and a special rubber lamination to minimize vibrations and filter extraneous noise. It also picks up sound from a 360-degree radius.

The new microphone/earphone combination enables users to listen to recordings while on the road without disturbing or being disturbed by their surroundings.

Headphones

Offering extended use, Philips ultra-lightweight headphones come with a slim, lightweight headband and have specially shaped cushions that align with the area around a user’s ear. Philips provides five different headphone options, catering to individual needs for long transcription or listening sessions. Two new stereo models support the Digital Pocket Memo 9600 Series.

Adapters

The USB Audio Adapter allows dictations to be played back in CD-quality stereo sound regardless of the audio port, sound card or headphone.

A power adapter for the car is the most compact, portable power solution for Digital Pocket Memo users. It charges Digital Pocket Memos via the 12V in-car connector while advanced technology matches the voltage with the Digital Pocket Memo’s requirements.

Foot Control

The Foot Control Raise enables transcriptionists to adapt the position of the recently introduced Philips foot control to his or her individual needs.

Developed in close cooperation with ergonomists and end users, the foot control enables transcriptionists to stop and start dictations with only a slight movement of the heel. This reduces strain, increases efficiency and optimizes the transcription workflow. The new foot control range consists of four different models, including the analog Foot Control 2210, the Philips-style USB Foot Control 2310, the new international-style version USB Foot Control 2320, and the advanced four-pedal USB Foot Control 2330.

Docking Stations

Philips LAN docking station facilitates file transfer from the Digital Pocket Memo without the need for computer connectivity. Encryption and password protection on the Digital Pocket Memo ensure that dictation files can be sent securely over the company network or the Internet.

The USB docking station connects to a computer and allows for hands-free recording.

Barcode Scanner

Linking personal information directly to a dictation while minimizing the risk of incorrect data assignment — the Barcode snaps into the Digital Pocket Memo 9600, thus allowing users to conveniently retrieve information by simply scanning the related barcode.

Consumables

Consumable accessories include original mini-cassettes, SD-cards, power supplies and rechargeable batteries. The Philips mini-cassette, for example, is specifically designed to cope with the rigorous stop-start demands of heavy dictation users and guarantees superb sound quality in all working conditions.

Thomas Brauner: “Philips now provides a complete hardware and software portfolio of professional dictation products and accessories unrivalled in the industry. The new accessories allow users to enjoy even greater comfort, mobility and simplicity in both office-based desktop dictation and mobile dictation scenarios.”
