Samsung demonstrates mobile TV capabilities and new handsets for Europe
Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., (Samsung) today announced its global leadership in the mobile TV category by unveiling a line-up of seven handsets crossing all types of mobile broadcasting platforms –Terrestrial DMB (T-DMB), Satellite DMB (S-DMB), DVB-H and Media FLO. Together, these various mobile broadcasting standards will bring large-volume multimedia, television and radio content directly to consumers via their mobile handset.
Samsung is at the forefront of the mobile TV revolution by providing a variety of platforms and the company is currently in talks with operators in the Europe, the United States, and China to bring mobile TV technology to the market in preparation for commercial launch of mobile TV services in 2006. Samsung has already provided commercial DMB phones in Korea, where S-DMB and T-DMB services have started and are leading the market. Samsung has live demonstrations of this technology at 3GSM.
Europe is a key market for Samsung and the unveiling of the SGH-P900, Europe’s first T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Media Broadcasting) phone underpins Samsung’s commitment to bring mobile TV to European consumers. With its unique landscape view design, the P900 gives consumers a more ergonomic device for experiencing mobile TV. The P900 is successfully in operation as part of ongoing field trials in Germany and France. Samsung plans to launch the P900 in the second quarter of 2006 before the ‘2006 FIFA World Cup Germany’ gets underway, becoming the first handset manufacturer to handle the European T‑DMB standard which will soon be launched in Europe through various operators.
