Brian H. Berkeley, Vice President of the Technology Center within Samsung Electronics’ LCD business, has been elected Treasurer of the internationally renowned Society for Information Display (SID).

Active with SID since 1991 when he was a program committee member, Berkeley last served as Secretary of the society, and has served as both General and Technical Chairperson of the annual SID symposium. As the new Treasurer, he will take a leadership role in planning the society’s short- and long-term financial affairs, while also overseeing budget allocation planning and providing executive governance of SID.

Berkeley joined Samsung Electronics in 2003 where he has focused on developing advanced LCD architectures, high speed driving, high performance algorithms, advanced lighting electronics, interface standards and proprietary areas of advanced technology. He is also responsible for all outsourced technology development.

Before he joined Samsung Electronics, he worked at Apple Computer for 20 years. He played an important role in establishing the use of LCDs at Apple. His display innovations include putting color onto the Macintosh platform, development of the world’s first high volume LCD monitor, and first implementation of wide-format notebook and desktop LCD displays.

Berkeley received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. He has been awarded multiple patents and has authored more than two dozen publications in the field of information display.
