Fund Uses ETFs to Invest in Strongest Global Trends

Bell Investment Advisors, a wealth management firm with more than $500 million in assets under management, announced the launch of the Bell Worldwide Trends Fund (TRNDX), a no-load mutual fund that is designed to invest in the strongest global investment trends. The fund primarily invests in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), based on Bell’s proprietary Active Portfolio Enhancement® methodology.

“By utilizing a wide universe of funds, this Fund takes a global approach seeking to leverage the trends we believe will provide the strongest relative returns for investors,” said Dana Nelson, co-portfolio manager of Bell Worldwide Trends Fund. “The rapid growth within the ETF marketplace provides us with liquidity, flexibility, and immediate access to specific markets, geographic regions, or sectors, which we choose based on market leadership.”

Bell’s methodology, refined over the 17 years since the firm was established, has its roots in performance momentum, where investment is maintained in sectors and strategies that demonstrate market leadership. Recognizing that the market moves in trends, Bell’s investment management team monitors over 800 ETFs and mutual funds, from which they identify the market trends showing the greatest relative strength.

“Bell Worldwide Trends Fund is a reflection of our investment management discipline, which focuses on performance rather than asset allocation,” said Jim Bell, president of Bell Investment Advisors. “By using our time-tested methodology in a mutual fund, we are able to make our investment approach accessible to a broader group of investors.”

The minimum investment for the mutual fund is $2,500, compared with a minimum of $400,000 for Bell’s discretionary investment management accounts. The fund allows investors to gain exposure to different investment markets in a single fund. As of March 31st the Bell Worldwide Trends Funds had holdings such as iShares S&P North American Natural Resources, iShares MSCI EAFE Growth, and Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF. The Fund is offered through broker-dealers Schwab, Scottrade, Fiserv, and TD Ameritrade.

The Fund is co-managed by Dana Nelson, Portfolio Manager and Matthew King, CFA, Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer. Nelson joined the Bell team in 2003 as an Investment Analyst and was named Portfolio Manager in 2007. King began his career at Bell as an Investment Analyst in 2000 and was promoted to Portfolio Manager in 2003. In 2007, he was named Chief Investment Officer and a Managing Director. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
